Opens Cans Like a Champ—No Wrestling Required!
A few years ago, I moved and somehow lost my old electric can opener. Did it run away? Get sucked into another dimension? Who knows. But after way too many frustrating battles with a manual can opener (seriously, why do they always seem to slip right when you’re about to win?), I finally decided enough was enough.Enter this little beauty. It opens cans effortlessly, spares my wrists, and even sharpens knives when needed. It’s reasonably priced, does its job just as well as those fancy stainless steel models (which, let’s be honest, just cost more to look pretty on your counter), and saves me from cursing at a stubborn lid while my dinner threatens to burn.If you have better things to do with your time than engage in a can-opening wrestling match, this is the can opener for you.

Worked Beautifully for About 4 Years
Electric can openers are an easy way to make life more pleasant for those of us who use canned food. I can’t believe that it took me over 18 years of married life, and until a newlywed made me aware of, the benefits of having one. Since then, I’ve made sure to have one in my kitchen all of the time. Of course, I still have a couple of manual can openers for times and places where it’s not possible to use the electric kind. When I buy a can opener, I expect it to last for some years. I don’t use can openers every day, or even every week. I bought this one because it had good reviews and I consider products sold under the Hamilton Beach name to be of good quality. This can openers has some really good features. I don’t have the product manual in front of me, so I’ll just mention 2 of them off the top of my head. The cutting attachment can be easily removed for cleaning. It also has a retractable cord.It cut cans ranging in sizes from small 6 ounce cans up to 29 ounce containers. I don’t remember why this is, but I do remember having to use a punch-style can opener for larger cans, such as those for tomato juice. It could be that I just found it more convenient to open it that way - so take that sentence with a grain of salt.I took care of this item, cleaning and during the cutting part and using WD-40 to keep it working smoothly. Just to make sure you understand, I didn’t use the oil many times over the 4 years (many only once, I can’t remember). I also didn’t spray the oil in it too heavily - when I decide to use preventative maintenance, I try to do it correctly.Sadly, it stopped cutting a couple of weeks ago. The magnet worked and the can revolved some, but it stopped after just a little while. It also made a funny noise. But the main problem was that it just didn’t cut. In fact, the odd noise came from the cutting blade. When I used force to insert the blade into the metal on top of the can, it did stab the top. But that was it. We tried a few different methods to try to get it to work, but failed.Maybe this was just a fluke. I’m sure many of these machines will last for years for some of you. I hope they do.

A BREEZE TO USE!
Can openers have been around for a gazillion years, it seems. But if you've used as many can openers as I have in my life, you would know that not all can openers are created equal. Manual can openers are a pain to use, especially if you have arthritic hands. The newer style electric can opener that cuts around the outside of the top of the can rather than down into the lid doesn't work with all size cans. If the rim is too wide, it won't work. I wasted money with this kind of a can opener, so I decided to go back to the old style, like the Hamilton Beach model. This one is a real honey. It will cut open any can, regardless of rim width, and it does it quickly and efficiently. This little unit just sails merrily along because it uses the tried and tested rim piercing technology where the cutting blade comes down from the top. It has an easy to position magnet arm that hangs onto the lid once it's cut off the can. It also slightly bends down the edges of the cut-off top so you don't cut yourself when you pick it up by its edges. This is a feature I've never seen before on this type of can opener and it's much appreciated. The unit is very well made, it's attractive sitting on the counter top, and it sure beats wrestling with a manual can opener which is difficult to use if you don't have strong hands. I have found it to be a great buy. 5 stars.

Works really good.
I was using an old secondhand electric can opener that took like a minute to get a into the jaws precisely, but this one I just stick up there and it works good.

Believe the recent negative reviews - Used once then inoperative - CHEAP MATERIALS
Unbelievable. What does a person have to do to find a working electronic can opener? We unpacked, plugged it in, and tested it. Used it one time successfully. A week or so later, my wife tried to open a can, and it jammed. The opener runs with nothing attached, but insert a can, and it's jammed or binds. Will not run.I believe others have said that the metal materials are insufficient to handle the stress of opening a can. They seem to bend out of position. We used to have a B&D undercabinet opener, worked for 20 years, sold the house ten years ago, and two owners later, the opener is still there and working. We had a Hamilton Beach opener maybe 20+ years ago (i.e. apartment living while on business), and it never had a problem. The new company owners have evidently change the materials used in the openers they now sell under the Hamilton Beach brand. In my opinion, it's a "bait and switch" operation. They are selling you something that is not what's represented (i.e. as originally made under that brand). These openers just don't work, period. I wish I could find one that did, at ANY price, because my would love to have her old one back.

Great electric tall can opener
I like that it is taller than a normal electric can opener for the taller cans. It does come with a knife sharpener, easy to use. I like the Sleek tall design.
