Ampersand Art Supply Wood Gesso Artist Painting Panel: Primed Smooth, 11" x 14", 7/8" Cradled Profile

I really like the smooth surface as it allows me to paint expressive paint strokes. Also, it’s light weight which is nice.

What a pleasure to paint on a smooth but with what seems like it has an invisible porous layer because paint adheres nicely. I paint with acrylics for my first layer then wheb completely dry i use oils (never the other way around). I know these aren’t cheap but why go cheap on something you put your heart n soul into? Do it. Buy them. I’m not a salesperson just one who loves to paint on this surface.

These are my favorite painting boards for acrylic painting. I always add another coat or two of gesso to them before I begin my painting to add a little more tooth to the surface. The surface as they come out of their wrapping with is very smooth and too slippery for my liking so I add the gesso to make a little rougher surface to grab my paint. They are thin but sturdy and are easy to put into a frame with framing points and are much better to transport than a stretched canvas because you don't have to worry about something poking a hole in your painting.

I like that it has no texture like canvas. The board is stiff snd sturdy enough not to warp with paint on the front. The gesso surface absorbed my paint too fast for my style so I add a thin coat of medium.

I purchased this to tape watercolor paper to. It's fine for that. However, the edges were chipped on one side so I would not recommend you paint directly on this board.

I'm not a painter, so I can't comment on this product's intended purpose. What I can say is that I've used these for decades as backers for sketch pads, they work well for that, they're very sturdy and this is the first time in over 20 years I've found a need to replace any of them.

Artist panels are prone to being damaged on the edges. Mine were shipped in a paper envelope. I ordered 3 and 2 of them had crushed corners. From now on Blick or Jerry's will have my business.

I love the Ampersand line of panels. But they aren't available in New Zealand. The panels plus Amazon's great value shipping makes them the most inexpensive way to go. HOWEVER, putting 3 panels into a plastic bag...... By the time I received them, they were literally falling out of the bag (luckily they were all there), but the corners on each panel have been damaged.

I love these panels. I use them for acrylic paintings. Nothing wrong with the panels except sometimes the corners get damaged in shipping. Some protective covering over all 4 corners would be appreciated. My latest board came with the two bottom corners slightly damaged. These boards are expensive and I don’t always frame them. A cardboard corner protector and some bubble wrap should be used in shipping. They just come with a cling film over it and in a standard shipping plastic coated envelope, which is OK. But the board is heavier than ordinary cardboard and needs those corners covered while en route.
