A better footsie roller, but the points are sharp!
I got my first footsie roller 35 years ago. I've worn out four of them -- the wood actually wore down to the point where the roller was much less effective. Though I appreciate the benefits of this type of easy foot massage, I have always felt that the item could be better. My main complaint is that the traditional footsie roller is just too mild in its action. The wooden ridges that dig into the soles of the feet are usually too blunt and don't give a deep or aggressive enough massage. (This is the type I've used for 35 years until now: Body Back Company Foot Roller)So when I saw this unit with the pointed spikes, I thought maybe somebody finally got it right. And they did, pretty much. This roller is heavier and more substantial than the more traditional footsie roller, and doesn't depend on breakable rubber rings for floor contact. These are already improvements, but the big difference is the use of pointed spikes rather than blunt ridges. This is a much more "aggressive" footsie roller, and that's just what I wanted.I have found that the sharp spikes provide a different kind of stimulation to the sole of the foot than the old blunt ridge type. It's interesting and I'm still experimenting with the unit and observing the effects. However, the spikes are so sharp that if I apply as much weight as I would like to -- in order to dig deeper into the foot -- the very sharp spikes cause too much pain. So while I think this is generally a superior design and implementation of an old idea, I still can't use it exactly as I would wish to.My plan is to gently sand down the pointed tips just a little to make the spikes just a tad less sharp. If I can do this carefully enough and get it just right, I think I'll have the perfect footsie roller!September 6, 2013: I tried sanding down the sharp points of the spikes just a little, and just on one side of the roller. It worked perfectly! On the side I sanded, the roller now works perfectly to my preference. The other side is still just a little too sharp, but I like it for occasional surface stimulation. (All of my comments refer to use of the roller with bare feet. With socks on, the points on the spikes are somewhat subdued in their effect, which is good. However, used in this way it would probably wear out the socks very quickly!)I would rate my self-modified roller as a "five star" item, but since I had to make the modification myself, I am leaving my rating at four stars.

Finally, a roller that really digs in!
As the other reviewers have noted, the spikes on the foot roller are very pointed. But all the alternatives I have tried, mostly made of plastic, just don't get the job done. I have high arches and get a lot of "knots" in my arch and this thing is effective at breaking them up. I've used it barefoot, so I imagine if you wanted to blunt the spikes a little you could wear socks, or sand down the ridges on half the roller as another reviewer has done.It comes with a tool for pressure point massage, and a little "ring" that you roll over a finger which is surprisingly effective. A nice value at $20.

I like it but it is a bit hard on the foot. Use a towel over it and underneath on the floor.

Good enough a bit sharp.
Kind of odd I didn't like them as much as I though I would, but I do have very sensitive feet so that might be the reason why i don't like them as much.

All things considered, a good buy.
The wooden foot massager is great, as are the steel rings for massaging your fingers. The only thing that made me give this item a 4 rather than a 5 is the plastic hand roller/acupressure device. It is not the same quality as the other items, the spikes are extremely sharp and I can see the potential for a very painful experience if it happened to break while one was using it. But that aside, I'm very pleased with this purchase. For the price, I still think it is a good value.
